Community partners
A critical and unique aspect of the Good Sports program is the Community Partner network. Community Partners are responsible for the implementation and promotion of the program in their area.
More importantly, the Community Partners' role is to support clubs through the accreditation process, and to monitor compliance with the accreditation criteria once clubs become accredited.
Community Partners, in conjunction with local police and state Liquor Licensing agencies, also provide Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) courses.
Below are some comments made about Community Partners, who have clearly been seen as mentors assisting clubs achieve various levels of accreditation through Good Sports:
"… (the community partner) has been good, he has stayed in touch, he has helped me find other people to help out in other ways. He helps out with strategies and he tried to help us get to Level 2 earlier in the season"
"…he (the community partner) also contacted the (local council) to find out about other programs that could benefit the club"
" she (the community partner) has helped us go through all the steps we had to go through – she came up the first night and gave a talk and went through all the paperwork– she was excellent – she answered all the questions the members had – and told us how it could benefit us."
(Australian Institute of Primary Care, Evaluation of the Good Sports Accreditation Program, July 2003)
